Founded in 1987, NAMI Jacksonville provides free mental health educational and support programs, and advocates for more, better-quality services for those who are affected by mental illness.
NAMI Jax is made up of people with mental illness, and families and friends of individuals with mental illness. We give support and friendship to each other, and share the knowledge gained through our own experiences – both successes and failures.
Shared experiences foster supportive networks that can help those going through a time of crisis or heartache.
From the U.S. Capitol to state legislatures to local city councils, we advocate for laws and policies that help ensure that people get the help they need when they need it.
We offer free support groups in safe environments for people with mental health disorders, and for their families, caregivers, and friends.
We provide a variety of free educational classes, youth programs, community outreach presentations and programs, as well as many different types of resources.

In 1979, a small group of families with a shared secret – family members with severe mental illness – met around a kitchen table. Together, these families battled the stigma of mental illness and the discrimination toward those living with it, to make positive changes for their loved ones.
What started as a small group of people who were determined to make a difference has grown into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Over the past two decades, thousands of parents, spouses, siblings, friends, and those living with mental health conditions, have worked tirelessly to bring mental illness out of the shadows.
Today NAMI is an alliance of more than 700 state organizations and local affiliates who work to advocate, raise awareness, and provide support and education to those who need it.
